Seven houses were burnt to the ground in a land-dispute related feud in West Guadalcanal and in the midst of the burning a woman was also reported to be raped by three men, police say.
The incident happened at Kakalu village on 12th October following a land related dispute.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Juanita Matanga said the incident occurred after nearby villagers went to Kakalu and burnt the houses. She added women also involved in the burning of the seven houses and as a result 30 people are now homeless.
Rape incident
Matanga said during that time of burning a rape incident also took place.
She said three suspects had allegedly raped a woman after they bashed her husband.
Matanga added when the man was unconscious they raped the woman.
A total of 20 suspects of the burning incident have been arrested and are now in custody.
