Woman dies after after being hit by bus, driver arrested

Officers of the National Traffic Department have arrested a 30-year-old male suspect in relation to a fatal accident at Kukum highway which resulted in the death of a woman in her 60s.

The accident occurred on Tuesday 11th of October at around 7pm when a White Toyota Hiace,  which was travelling in a westerly direction accidentally hit the deceased.

Speaking during his weekly press conference, Police Commissioner Mostyn Mangau said that the bus driver then assisted the woman to the National Referral Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

“Police have continued with their investigations and have also looked to witnesses to help assist in the investigations and we have remanded the suspect as the investigations are ongoing,” he said.

Commissioner Mangau also appealed to anyone who may witness the scene of the incident to come forward assist the police.

“My condolences to the immediate family of this woman for the loss of their loved one as well too”.

Meanwhile a reconciliation has been carried out between relatives of both parties after the accident.
