The Leader of the Opposition Hon. Matthew Wale has expressed his heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of late Fred Puni.
Late Fred Puni, who visited his brother in Honiara, was tragically hit by a car that claimed his life.
“I, along with the members of the Opposition group and our Nation, wish to extend our deepest sympathies for the untimely passing of late Fred Puni,” Wale stated.
“It is with profound sadness that we mourn the loss of Fred, a brother from our bigger Pacific family. This tragedy, which has prematurely taken his life, has also left our Nation in deep sadness” Hon. Wale lamented.
“I share in the sorrow and grief of this heartbreaking loss. My thoughts and prayers extend to both his Samoan and Cook Islands family, as well as his Air Niugini family. To each of you, I offer my deepest condolences.”
“During this time of sorrow, please know that you are not alone in your grief. The people of Solomon Islands mourn with you and stand united in offering our condolences and prayers.” Wale said.
Hon. Wale emphasized that this tragedy serves as a reminder for Solomon Islanders of the grave consequences that arise from the dangerous mix of alcohol and driving.
“It is imperative that we as a Nation understand the severity of the consequences that stem from such reckless behaviour” Hon. Wale strongly stated.
“On the part of the police, this means diligently enforcing our laws through checks that can prevent such tragedies. For everyone else, it means carrying a deep sense of care and responsibility to not drink and drive” Wale concluded.
