Leader of Opposition Matthew Wale describes the late Hon Moses as a towering figure of humility, courage and service.
The MP for West Guadalcanal died yesterday in Honiara.
In a message to his family, Wale said: “We mourn the loss of a colleague and friend, who stood as a towering figure of humility, courage and service. He was a leader truly for the people, willingly shouldering the weight of painful sacrifice so that many Solomon Islanders could find reconciliation and peace.”
He continued: “We remember and honour his service to our Nation, his role as a member of Parliament for SIDP, and his legacy as a founding Member of Parliament of the CARE coalition.”
Wale said: “In this hour of sorrow, we stand with you in prayer. May the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who gave his son for our salvation, uphold you and your family with his everlasting peace.”
Garu was elected in the 2010 National General Election and held on to the seat until 2019 when he lost to former MP Anthony Veke. But the late Garu reclaimed the seat in the 2023 election and since then he was a member of the Opposition bench. In his previous political career, Garu held several ministerial positions.
He was 56 years old when he passed on.
Late Garu was a former school teacher having taught for two years. He was also a public officer in the Ministry of Agriculture for three years and served the Development Bank of Solomon Islands for ten years.
He was from Isunavutu, West Guadalcanal.
