Waetara is new chief of SI Electoral Commission (SIEC) as Saitala leaves top position

Commissioner and Chief Electoral Commissioner of Solomon Islands Electoral Commission Mose Saitala is ending his stint tomorrow and is to be replaced by a former permanent secretary and experienced former public servant Jane Waetara.

Saitala has been the head of SIEC since March 2018 and had managed the registration in 2018 and the 2019 General Election.

Saitala who is from Tuvalu had previously served in the Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet and he was brought into SIEC to drive the 2018 Electoral Reforms and managed the 2019 NGE.

Speaking to SBMOnline this morning, Saitala confirms that he’s leaving the position tomorrow but he will remain as an advisor in the SIEC.

He confirms that Waetara is taking over from him and she starts her work with SICE on 1st August.

One of the Waetara’s immediate tasks is to plan for the three bye-elections for Central Honiara, North East Guadalcanal and South Choiseul.

Waetara was a former permanent secretaries and he spent a lot of her time as PS with the Ministry of Planning.
