Two suspects arrested for killing of expat in Choiseul

Police describes as ‘young’, the two suspects who allegedly killed a long-time resident of Kagau Island on Choiseul Province, Erick Djokovic.

Assistant Commissioner of Police for National Capital and Crime Prevention Simpson Pogeava told journalists today that the suspects, males, allegedly attacked the long-time resident of Kagau, Djokovic, 80+, in the early hours of 21st January.

“The victim was seriously injured and was referred to the National Referral Hospital but he unfortunately passed on,” said Pogeava.

Police could not give details of the motive behind the killing, however, investigation into the murder is currently underway.

The assistant commissioner warned the public to respect the old people and the children.

“Violence against old people and children is not acceptable in our society.  We must work together to ensure incidents like this does not happen again in our community,” said Pogeava.

Djokovic was a long-time resident of Choiseul after moving into the country from Australia. He was married to a Choiseulese and one of their sons was the former Chief of Staff to former PM Manasseh Sogavare, the late Robson Djokovic.
