Turarana Community High School Receives a New Girls' Dormitory and Classroom from ESSP

Central Guadalcanal, 1 March 2024 – This week, Turarana Community High School received a new girls’ dormitory and ablution block funded by the Australian and New Zealand Governments, in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development. The special handover event, held on 1 March 2024, celebrates the completion of the education infrastructure project.

The project, valued at SBD 2.4 million, was completed by Niu World in November 2023.
The girls’ dormitory and ablution block will enhance the school facilities, providing accommodation for female students and additional classroom space. The 296 students (138 girls, 158 boys) enrolled at Turarana Community High School will benefit from the improved learning environment.
The handover event, attended by representatives from the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development (MEHRD), Australian High Commission (DFAT), New Zealand High Commission (MFAT), and the school community, celebrates the successful completion of the project. Turarana Community High School is now better equipped to meet the educational needs of its students, with enhanced infrastructure.

The Solomon Islands Education Sector Support Program (ESSP) provides the strategic direction and implementation arrangements for the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT), and the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) combined investment to support the Solomon Islands Government to implement its Education Strategic Framework (ESF) 2016-2030 and the National Education Action Plan.
