TULAGI Hospital will be upgraded to meet the standards of a fully-fledged general hospital.

Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare in his nationwide address this week said this will be done as stipulated in the Ministry of Health’s Role Delineation Policy (RDP).

The Prime Minister said this upgrade means the hospital will receive specialized medical equipment to enable it to function as a fully-fledged general hospital.

“It will provide a broader range of services including x-rays and medical laboratory services together with the appropriate human resources to provide these specialized services,” he said.

Prime Minister Sogavare said the decision to upgrade the Tulagi hospital was reached during a one-day consultation held at the provincial capital in Tulagi last week.

He said the consultation included members of the provincial government, the ministry of health and medical services and other key partners committed to the upgrade of the Tulagi health facility.

“This development, again demonstrates the commitment and effectiveness of the policies of the Democratic Coalition Government for Advancement (DCGA) to move specialized health services closer to our people,” the Prime Minister said.

Prime Minister Sogavare said work will commence as soon as the new project site is confirmed.
