Tropical disturbance current for all provinces

With only a week to go before the country (Solomon Islands) enter into the festive month (December), Solomon Islands meteorological service (SIMS) are tracking a disturbance. 

At 11:00 am this morning, a tropical depression with a central pressure of 1000 hectopascals was re-located near 10.2 degrees latitude south and 168.4 degrees longitude east.

“This is re-located approximately 126 nautical miles (233 kilometres) northeast of Utupua Island, Temotu province,” SIMS says while releasing its tropical disturbance number six.

“The tropical depression is moving east-southeast at 05knots towards Anuta island and strengthening.

“Expect gale force winds 34 to 47 knots (63-87 kilometres per hour) to affect Temotu province within the next 24-48 hours.

“Expect winds of 15 to 25 knots (27-46 kilometres per hour) over the remaining provinces. Seas will be moderate to rough and moderate to heavy swells (2.5 – 4.0 metres) over most waters especially Temotu with a potential of coastal flooding.   

“Expect heavy rain and thunderstorms over Temotu province.” SIMS warns people to take precautionary measures as bad weather associated with the tropical depression poses threat to lives and properties and also listen to SIBC and all media outlets for further updates.
