Tropical cyclone warning current for Temotu province is now cancelled, the Solomon Islands Meteorological Service (SIMS) at 2:00 pm this afternoon has confirmed.

SIMS in a statement said” at 11:00am this morning, tropical cyclone Harold (category 4) with a central pressure of 950 hectopascals was located near 15.6 degrees latitude south and 165.6 degrees longitude east. This is approximately 65 nautical miles (121 kilometres) west of Santo Island, Vanuatu.

“The cyclone is moving south-soutwest at 03 knots from Santo island Vanuatu, further away from the Solomon Islands.

“Winds over 33knots (61 kilometres per hour) are no longer expected over the Temotu waters.

“However, strong winds of 20 to 25 knots still remain over most waters. Seas will still be moderate to rough with moderate swells but slowly decreasing.                    

“This will be the final information for cyclone Harold unless any part of the country is under threat again,” the SIMS statement said.
