Parliament to meet tomorrow to approve State of Public Emergency

Parliament will meet tomorrow, Monday the 6th of April 2020 to approve that a State of Public Emergency exists in Solomon Islands.

At this meeting the Prime Minister will move:

“That Parliament approves the Proclamation declared by His Excellency the Governor General on 25th March 2020 pursuant to Section 16 subsection 3 of the Constitution, that a State of Public Emergency exists in Solomon Islands; and that Parliament approves that the State of Public Emergency shall continue in force until the expiration of 4 months, unless revoked earlier by a resolution of Parliament pursuant to Section 16, subsection 6 of the Constitution.”

His Excellency the Governor General declared that a State of Public Emergency exists in Solomon Islands on the 25th of March 2020 to continue for seven days.

This meeting is purposely for Parliament to approve that State of Public Emergency to continue in force until the expiration of a period of four months, unless revoked earlier by Parliament. The meeting commences as of 9:30am Monday 6th and is expected to conclude the next day.
