Following his briefing today with the Auditor General’s Office, the Chairman of Public Accounts Committee and MP for Central Honiara Gordon Darcy Lilo has confirmed that he is moving a motion for a full hearing into the Audit Report of the ESP later this month.
Lilo, a one-time prime minister, confirmed that he would call PAC to convene and securitize the report in detail especially its findings once he returns from his overseas trip next week.
There is widespread call for action on the findings of the report with many calling for investigations by relevant stakeholders including police and the Leadership Code Commission.
Speaking to SBMOnline tonight Lilo after his meeting with the OAG today, said: “I have been briefed and I will be moving a motion to refer the repot to the PAC for a thorough scrutiny of the findings so as the recommendations.”
He said besides the findings and recommendations they would be examining those authorised to handle public money based on a government policy and how that was enforced.
“We need to look into manner in which the financial resources had been managed,” said the MP for Central Honiara.
Lilo pointed out that certain key players and witnesses would be called to the hearing.
He said from the hearing any possibility of breaches of the country’s laws would be referred to police for further action.
“If we find elements of criminality in how the funds were managed then we will ensure action is taken,” Lilo said.
