The Minister of Police, National Security & Correctional Services, Hon. Jimson Tanangada, has issued an important appeal to all social media platform users particularly on Facebook across the country, to stop using profane and offensive language.

The Minister stressed the need for responsible online behavior to maintain peace and harmony among citizens.

Minister Tanangada expressed concern over a noticeable increase in swearing and inflammatory posts during the Solomon Cup 2025 which ended yesterday.

“While we celebrate our national sporting event, it is crucial that we foster unity and respect among our people,” said Minister Tanangada. “Using foul language and hateful expressions online only serve to inflame tensions and divide our communities. We must all act responsibly to preserve our national harmony.”

The Minister also made a strong appeal to community leaders, churches, provincial and national leaders to work together in appealing to our people, especially social media users, to respect everyone.

He further urged parents and schools to take proactive roles in peace building, promoting respect for each other as fellow Solomon Islanders.

The Ministry, being responsible for national security, urges the public to be mindful of their language and to use social media platforms positively, promoting good sportsmanship and mutual respect. Any posts inciting hatred or violence will be taken seriously and may attract legal action under the country’s cybercrime and national security laws.
