Soaki presents Letter of Introduction to PM Marape

His Excellency, William Soaki, Solomon Islands High Commissioner to Papua New Guinea, presented his Letter of Introduction to Honourable James Marape, Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea at the Manasupe Haus in Waigani, Port Moresby, on Tuesday 19 October 2021.

H.E Soaki thanked Prime Minister Marape for the opportunity to present his introductory letter and conveyed greetings and well wishes from the Solomon Islands Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare to his PNG counterpart. He also took the opportunity to thank the PNG government for the kind assistance and courtesies rendered during the passing of his predecessor, H.E late Barnabas Anga.

High Commissioner Soaki assured PM Marape that he looks forward to working closely with the PNG government and people to enhance the bilateral relationship between both countries and explore new areas of cooperation.

Hon. Marape congratulated H.E Soaki on his appointment. He told the High Commissioner that PNG government would provide necessary support during his tenure in office. He stated that PNG highly value its relationship with Solomon Islands. Both countries are important partners sub-regionally, regionally and globally on issues of mutual interests.

During the presentation, H.E Soaki and PM Marape also had the opportunity to discuss some bilateral issues including Trade & Investment, Sports cooperation, Energy, Fisheries, Bougainville, Border issues, Geo-political issues/interests and Grant Assistance.

H.E Soaki was the former Solomon Islands High Commissioner to Fiji and Permanent Representative to Pacific Islands Forum.

Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea established diplomatic relations on 7 July 1978.
