The Solomon Islands National University Pro Vice-Chancellor Corporate John Teddie Usuramo has collapsed and died this afternoon in his office at the university.

A message from late Usuramo’s relatives on social media has confirmed his death.

Senior Marketing and Promotions Officer of the University who also carries out media work for the university, Estee Lonamei, also confirmed to SBMOnline the sad news of the death of Usuramo.

He said the late Usuramo died this afternoon and it was a very sad moment for the entire university.

Usuramo was working in the Office of the Prime Minister before taking up his posting at SINU.

His latest position was the Chief of Staff to former Prime Minister Rick Houenipwela.

He had also previously served at the University of the South Pacific.

Many Solomon Islanders who knew Usuramo have gone on to the social media to express their shock and condolences to his family.

“It is with great sadness to learn of the untimely passing of a dear friend and former work colleague Mr John Teddie Usuramo,” says Douglas Marau, the deputy press secretary to the Prime Minister and who once worked with the late Usuramo.

“I know you will be missed, but the memories some of us shared with you will surely lives on,” says journalist and Opposition press secretary Gary Hatigeva.

Usuramo is from Malaita.
