SIMA confirms oil pollution following sinking of Kosco at Noro

SIMA has confirmed that there is now oil pollution following the sinking of J.HARMS, formally Kosco, this morning.

Director of SI Maritime Authority, Thierry Nervale told SBMOnline this afternoon that the vessel has sunk and there is now confirmed pollution by dark oil.

He said SIMA is deploying an investigation and assessment team with support of MECDM Environment Division.

Nervale said the Marine Pollution Advisory Committee is informed and will meet this afternoon to look at the reports’ details and follow-up actions.

The director says they do not know the circumstances but the vessel was not operational and has been at anchor like at Noro for sometimes.
