Honiara, Solomon Islands, September 15, 2025 – The Solomon Islands Council of Trade Unions (SICTU) extends its heartfelt congratulations to Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele and the Government for National Unity and Transformation (GNUT) for the outstanding execution of the 54th Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting in Honiara and Noro Town.

SICTU says the landmark event not only demonstrated the nation’s capacity for leadership but also underscored its firm commitment to regional cooperation.

“The successful hosting of the Forum under the theme ‘Lumi Tugeda: Act Now for an Integrated Blue Pacific Continent’addressed critical issues such as climate change and economic resilience—realities deeply felt by our people. Prime Minister Manele’s exemplary leadership and the government’s strategic vision have positioned Solomon Islands as a key player in shaping the Pacific’s future,” SICTU President Tony Kagovai said.

The scale of the event required unprecedented coordination. The government’s ability to manage activities across multiple venues, from the capital Honiara to Noro Town, reflected remarkable organizational capability.

“Most importantly, we acknowledge the hundreds of workers in both the public and private sectors—across hospitality, transportation, security, and communications—whose dedication and professionalism ensured the Forum’s success. Your efforts have made the nation proud,” Mr. Kagovai added.

SICTU noted that the Forum provided a significant boost to the local economy and created valuable employment opportunities. Beyond that, exposure to international standards has enhanced the professional capacities of the workforce. “We encourage the government to build on this momentum by investing further in workforce development programs,” Kagovai said.

The Forum’s priorities also align with GNUT’s pillars of Economic Transformation, Unity, Infrastructure Development, and Human Capital Development. SICTU particularly welcomes the strong emphasis on climate action and reaffirmed that working people are ready to support the implementation of outcomes that safeguard ocean resources and promote climate-resilient economies.
