The Makira-Ulawa Provincial Assembly is set for a decisive sitting on December 9, where a motion of no confidence against the Siapu-led PACRA government will be formally debated.

Makira Ulawa Provincial Assembly Clerk Clement Reginald Rohorua confirmed that the Speaker of the Makira-Ulawa Provincial Assembly received the notice on 25 November. After reviewing the submission, the Speaker confirmed that the notice met all requirements under Standing Order 108, which governs motions of no confidence. With compliance established, the motion has been cleared to be tabled during the Assembly sitting on December 9.

The motion, filed by Hon. Douglas Kuper, MPA for East Arosi Ward, cites three grounds of alleged:

  1. Gross misuse or neglect of powers

  2. Misappropriation of public funds

  3. Conduct bringing the Office of the Speaker into disrepute

Mr. Rohorua further explained that under Standing Order 107, the notice of motion took effect on 26 November and will lapse on December 4, a cleared seven days period.

“With all procedural checks satisfied and timelines confirmed, the motion will be listed for the Assembly’s sitting scheduled for the 9th of December,” Mr. Rohorua said.

He adds that the motion will come after the assembly  deliberate on the revised appropriation bill schedule to begin on 1st December.

The upcoming debate is expected to attract strong public attention across Makira-Ulawa Province, as members prepare for what may become a critical leadership test for the Siapu administration.
