The Solomon Islands community in Adelaide, South Australia, today celebrated the country’s 42nd Independence Anniversary.
Residents and students including the seasonal workers marked the day with feasting and traditional dances.
A report from Adelaide states, with the easing of Covid-19 restrictions in Adelaide, it enabled the community to mark the country’s independence.
“It was a joyous occasion where families, friends and Solomon Islanders gathered together to mark this special day our country,” the reported, further states.
It adds that food; island music and dancing were the highlights of the day— and they came as a breath of fresh air after harsh lockdowns that they endured in the past months.
With the lifting of the restrictions, the Solomon Islands community hopes to have more gatherings like today’s in the near future.
SBMOnline understands that many Solomon Islands communities around the world have also celebrated the 42nd Anniversary of the country’s independence in 1978.
For the first time in the history Solomon Islands Government had not celebrated independence in Honiara due to COVID-19.
