Prime Minister Honorable Manasseh Sogavare has launched the Safe Green Games Campaign today 3 March 2023, at Lawson Tama stadium.

The official launch was also witnessed by the Lord Mayor of Honiara City Cr. Eddie Siapu, Chair of the National Hosting Authority Dr. Jimmie Rodgers, Chair of the Government Services Integration Committee (GSIC) Mr. Bernard Bataanisia and other dignitaries.

The Launching ceremony now triggers the start of a long-term Honiara Clean-up campaign as part of promoting a safe and clean Honiara City ready for the Pacific Games in less than 8 months.

The launching ceremony started with the largest public parade ever, from three different locations within Honiara which converged at Lawson Tama for the official ceremony.

The official ceremony was also attended by the Deputy Prime Minister Hon. Manasseh Maelanga, Ministers of the crown, Members of the Parliamentary Opposition including former Prime Minister Hon. Rick Hou, Members of the Independent group and other Ordinary Members of Parliament. Also in attendance were HCC Councillors, Permanent Secretaries, members of the Diplomatic Corps, State Owned Enterprises, Members of the private sector, Civil Society groups, Church representatives, schools and residents of Honiara City represented within various wards in Honiara.

PM Hon. Manasseh Sogavare in his speech to launch the Safe and Green Games said that he was impressed with the turn-out of all partners and stakeholders.

The gathering at Lawson Tama was memorable with the participation of students from schools as far as Selwyn College to the West to Don Bosco Technical Institute to the East.

There were also government ministries, NGOs, SOEs, regional organizations, communities in the three wards in Honiara city and churches who were part of the parade and launch today.

The Prime Minister has also highlighted that it is important that our visitors have a pleasant and memorable experience of our country from the moment they disembark the plane until the moment they depart and that to achieve this, we must work together within the next 262 days to ensure our City is Safe, Green, and clean.

The three-day event as part of the launch campaign will continue tomorrow Saturday 4th March 2023 with a big clean-up campaign from Henderson to White River and will end with a combined church service at St. Barnabas Cathedral on Sunday March 5th.

NHA is working together with Government Service Integration Committee (GSIC) and Honiara City Council (HCC) to ensure the success of the Safe and Green Games Initiative.

NHA also calls on all members of the community to support and work together during and through the campaign period.
