RSIPF kicks of Election operations on Ulawa Island

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force successfully kicks off their Election operations on Ulawa yesterday after safely arriving on Saturday evening for the Joint elections on Ulawa.

In their first operations, the five man team which consists of Honiara and Kirakira police officers and Warders, set off around Ulawa Island visiting every communities to aware communities of the roles and responsibilities the police will play during the elections as well as putting up of the Liquor ban notice around the island of Ulawa.

Sector commander of Ulawa Ugi constituency, Mr. Rolland Tautaumao says that their first operation is to hold awareness in the communities on the work of the Solomon Islands Royal Police Force (RSIPF) in during the elections as well as putting up of the Liquor ban notice that comes into effect tomorrow, 16 th of April to 26 th April.

“Today (Sunday) we travelled around Ulawa visiting communities and purposely to hold awareness and pin up the Liquor ban notice that will come into effect on the 16th of April during the elections period”, sector commander Tautaumao says.

“The purpose of the awareness is to inform citizens especially voters on Election offences and the important role the police will play during the course of the elections”, officer Tautaumao adds.

The Sector.commander for Ulawa Ugi constituency says that all Election materials  for the Joint elections  are now  secured at the Taheramo police station awaiting distribution to polling stations.

He says that his team will not tolerate anyone or anything that will arise during the elections and says his team is prepared for the elections.

Sector commander Tautaumao finally calls on the people of Ulawa and Ugi constituency to participate in this year’s Joint elections peacefully and his team looks forward for a successful and peaceful elections.

“ Iam calling on you good citizens of Ulawa to come and participate in the elections with a peaceful mind and follow adhere to all electoral rules and avoid at all cost breaching the electoral regulations as the police will not tolerate such actions”, he further says.

Mr. Tautaumao says that he is happy with the communities response to his teams visit and says people in the communities also appreciate their presence on the Island to execute their duties during the course of elections.

A high visibility of police presence is expected across all polling stations on Ulawa and they will be patrolling on the election day to maintain peace and order .

A total of seven police officers were deployed to Ulawa Ugi constituency; two on Ugi island and 6 on Ulawa Island.
