Officers of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) at the National Traffic Centre are investigating a traffic accident which involves a white Toyota bus opposite the Wesley United church in Honiara on 3 May 2020.

Director of the National Traffic Department Superintendent Fredrick Satu says, “The bus was travelling in the Eastly direction with six passengers including children on-board when the front right tyre of the vehicle flew out just after passing the Honiara Central Market.”

Only one of the passengers was injured in the accident and was taken to the National Referral Hospital (NRH) for medical treatment.

Superintendent Satu adds: “Officers attended the report and the driver was breathalysed and the percentage of alcohol in his body was above the legal prescribed level of .04%. His first test result was 101% while his second test dropped to 87%.”

The driver of the vehicle was taken to the Kukum Traffic Centre and is expected to face several possible charges including  using unlicensed motor vehicle, driving without a valid driving license and presence of alcohol in person’s blood. Superintendent Satu says, “I would like to strongly warn vehicle drivers not to drink and drive as it will only endanger their own life and that of their passengers. Traffic laws are there to safeguard us.”
