RSIPF friendly match with youth at Komaliai

Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) who are involved in providing security at the Solomon Islands-Papua New Guinea (SI-PNG) common border during the Bougainville Referendum had a friendly volley ball match with the youth at Komaliai in the Shortland Islands on 30 November 2019.

Two New Zealand Police advisors Mark Crawford and Sander Zuiderduin who are part of the Solomon Islands Police Support Program (SIPSP) also formed part of the team doing community engagement at Komaliai.

Tactical Commander, Police Forward Command Post (PFCP), Kulitanai Inspector Kerry Sireheti says, “The friendly volley ball match is part of the community interaction with villagers to engage them with activities that help build confidence in the RSIPF.”

“During the friendly match police also provided high visibility presence in the community so people feel safe since Komaliai is one of the communities in the Shortland Islands that is very close to Bougainville.”

“The security of our people is very important that is why we must make sure police presence in the communities is visible. Safety of our people is paramount and we must know that we are sovereign nation and we must protect our people.”

“Whist I appreciate the people of Shortland Islands for their positive support to the police, I also call on leaders in the Shortland Islands to work together with police. Police are your partner in dealing with crime.

Feel free to share information with police about anything might bring any threat to our people,” says PFCP Commander Sireheti.
