Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) have checked a foreign vessel at Kariki in the Shortland Islands on 20 November 2019 as part of their regular patrol check to protect Solomon Island-Papuan New Guinea border during the operation Bougainville Referendum that will happen on 23 November 2019.
Forward Command Post (PFCP) Commander at Kulitanai, Chief Superintendent Mathias Lenialu says, “The foreign vessel was registered in the Cayman Islands with a total number of 17 persons on board entering the country on 29 October 2019 at Santa Ana in the Makira Ulawa Province.”
“The check on the vessel is part of the routine patrol check that we must make sure all types of vessels sighted at the SI-PNG must go through proper balance checks with relevant Solomon Islands Government law agencies during the operation Bougainville Referendum.”
Chief Superintendent Lenialu says, “The boat is here purposely to do surfing and diving. Few locals are accompanying them as tour guides. We confirmed that it went through the proper checks with the relevant authorities as required.”
“May I call on my good people from the Shortland Islands to work together with my officers currently on the ground. Should there be any matter that you like to assist with regards to policing, please come forward and seek help from your police.”
