Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) in Guadalcanal Province have arrested a 45-year-old man in relation to the burning of a solar panel that powers a Telekom tower at Visale on North West Guadalcanal over the weekend.
The man is alleged to have burned the solar panel on 30 July 2019. This has affected the communication network at Visale and the surrounding area.
Police has been investigating the incident over the past several months.
Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Guadalcanal Province, Superintendent Nixson Manetoga says, “Investigators at Henderson Police Station have successfully arrested the man on Saturday 23 November 2019 after gathering information of his whereabouts at Piudava Village in the Visale area.”
“The man has been remanded in custody on a holding charge of wilful and unlawful destruction to property pursuant to section 326 of the Penal Code this week. He is expected to appear in the Honiara Central Magistrates’ Court on 10 December 2019.”
“The arrest of the man is a result of hard work by my investigators and assistance from members of the surrounding community in providing information to police. I want to thank the police investigators and members of the communities who assisted police,” says PPC Manetoga.
PPC Manetoga appeals to communities in the Visale area on North West Guadalcanal to assist the police with more information if any other person was involved in the planning and destruction of the solar panel.
