In a new twist, six Solomon Islands National University workers in the Human Resources Department are reported to be suspended by the Vice Chancellor Ganesh Chand effective today.

SBMOnline was reliably informed that the officers were suspended as of this afternoon.

“Yes I can confirm that myself and five others have been suspended,” said one of the officers who received his suspension letter tonight.

The officer claims that their suspension was a retaliation by the VC because of the evidences that they had produced to the two unions against him and his cronies.

SINU academic and non-academic staff had demanded that the Chairman of SINU Council removed the VC, claiming allegedly corrupt practices and unfair dealings regarding some of the suppliers of the university. However after the Chairman maintained that he didn’t have the powers to terminate or suspend the VC, the case had been referred to the Trade Disputes Panel.

The two unions case against the VC is now before the TDP.

This week the VC who was quarantined in the past two weeks resumed work and this afternoon six of SINU officers had been reported to be on suspension without salary and all their benefits were ceased.

One of the suspended officers said the suspension was based on unsummoned internal audit report which they have not been given the natural justice to respond to the issues raised in the report.

“We have nothing to fear by this suspension. This is retaliation by the VC to the evidences that we produced to the two unions on corruption dealing in SINU,” the officer said.
