Travellers into Honiara and outbound in the Poha area, west Guadalcanal were halted for a few minutes as a razing fire sends thick smoke on to the road– blocking sight and poses threat to passing vehicles just after on Saturday afternoon.Thick smoke from bush-fire –on wild grass— just before the Poha Bridge (coming from west into Honiara), caused fear amongst drivers’ as they could not see moving vehicles on the road. The smoke was visible from Mamara area.One driver told SBMOnline that he has been waiting for sometime, as he was too scared to drive into the thick smoke fearing for his vehicle and because of bad sight.SBMOnline was on site and observed that it was absolutely impossible for drivers to navigate on the road due to poor vision.One driver who escaped from the fire said he had to drive into the main road as the fire was blocking him and the sea.“It was so scary that I had to drive into the road in very dangerous conditions. If I stayed the fire might swamp me and my car,” he said.Fanned by strong wind the fire sent debris onto the road and thick smoke into the air causing havoc for minutes to drivers in the west side of town.After the fire slowed down, drivers were able to pass through into and out of the city.
