The Solomon Islands National University (SINU) Council is in the process of appointing a new Vice-Chancellor.

Acting VC Dr Jack Maebuta announced on Friday during the university’s graduation at the same time he asked for staff and students to support the new VC saying: “If umi no laekim hem moa (if we don’t like him too) then the only option is for every one prayer go to God for sendim kam mo eni Angel VC fo umi (to send us any angel VC),” he said.

Revealing the second challenge the university is faced with, which is without a VC, Dr Maebuta said SINU has been without a Vice Chancellor since 2020 and in the short history of the University “we had two VCs and they did not serve their tenure because students, staff and the public did not want them.”

“We cannot go on like this to build a university. The process of searching and recruitment for a VC is a tedious one. It almost took a year to complete this process,” he said.

Dr Maebutu confirmed that SINU Council is in the process of appointing the third VC and “I’m appealing to all students, staff and the public as a Solomon Islander to support our new VC. If umi no laekim hem mo then the only option is for every one prayer go to God for sendim kam mo eni Angel VC fo umi. We cannot carve a VC to our likes but we want our VC to carve our National University to be a best university.”

The former SINU VC, Dr  Ganeshwar Chand who left after staff protest at the university in 2020.
