Deputy Commissioner of Police Ian Vaevaso told the media this morning that the one year and six month old child was staying with the house girl whilst the father was asleep and the mother was fetching dry coconut from a nearby planation.

According to Vaevaso, in the absence of the parents, a group of Asian loggers from Global Logging Company arrived at the campsite and one of them carried the child.

Police said it was during that time that one of the Asian loggers from Malaysia reversed a vehicle and rolled over the baby. The child was pronounced dead on the spot.

Vaevaso said the dead of the child was suspicious and believed to be foul play and it might involve the offence of murder.

Investigation is continuing into the incident.
