Police in Tulagi are investigating the death of a 50-year-old man from Wagina at the Tulagi wharf in Central Islands Province on 16 January 2020.

Acting Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Central Province, Inspector Hugo Maelasi says it is believed that prior to the unfortunate incident, the deceased was consuming alcohol with his crew-mates on board the vessel ‘360 Flayers’ on the evening of 16 January.

“At about 11pm, some of the crew retired to have their rest while others were still drinking with other seamen on the wharf. On return to the vessel, two of the crew of the ‘36O Flayers’ discovered the body of the deceased lying on the entrance stairway of the ship.”

“The two crew thought the deceased was alive so they managed to lay him properly on the floor but at about 6am on 17 January they found him dead,” says PPC Maelasi

“Police at Tulagi have started investigating the death incident including interviewing members of the ship’s crew. I call on others who were in the area that night to come forward with any information that may help in the investigation.”
