“We are living in a region that is prone to natural disasters, and helping each other is a standing gesture in times like this. It is now time for the region to stand with the people of Australia. While in monetary terms our assistance may be a drop in the ocean, but the prayers and hearts that go with it is what matters, because that is claiming the limitless resources of heaven,” the Prime Minister said.

Prime Minister Sogavare said for the people of Solomon Islands, it needs no reminder what Australia has done for this country.

“We now have a country to enjoy and can without fear deal with each other in peace and harmony because some people have opened their hearts and resources to help us in our time of need. We have a Christian and customary duty to do likewise,” he said.

Prime Minister Sogavare has urged everyone to join hands together with one heart and help our dear friends from Australia.

The theme for the fundraising drive is “Umi tugeda fo Australia”. “It is not only about reciprocating the help we receive from Australia over the years, but it is also about coming to the aid of our friend and standing side by side with them in the face of such challenging calamity,” he said.
