PM lauds gov’t, churches partnership

PRIME Minister Manasseh Sogavare has lauded the strong partnership between the Government and Churches in the country.

This was after the four days National Symposium for Church Leaders held in Honiara last week.

The symposium was hosted by the Government through the Ministry of Traditional Governance, Peace and Ecclesiastical Affairs (MTGPEA).

It was held from Monday 31^st August and ended on 3^rd September 2020 at the Mendana Hotel.

Speaking during his nation-wide address this week, the Prime Minister said it was the first national symposium hosted for the head of churches and administrators, since the renaming of the ministry from MNURP to the Ministry of Traditional Governance, Peace and Ecclesiastical Affairs.

“The national symposium is one of the National Government’s priority policy. The symposium itself is a manifestation of the Government’s commitment and seriousness in working with Churches in the country to advance our collective interests,” he said.

The theme of the symposium was “Strengthening partnership with churches for sustainable peace, unity and nation-building”.

The Prime Minister highlighted that history itself has taught us that Churches play a fundamental role in our society.

Prime Minister Sogavare said history has also taught us that Churches has provided guidance and spiritual leadership during our darkest days.

“Therefore, the symposium is an opportunity for church leaders to further strengthen its partnership with the government,” he said.

Prime Minister Sogavare said the outcome of the symposium will pave the way for a strategic road map to enable church institutions to become equal partners with the national government.

The Prime Minister also thanked Church leaders and administrators for availing themselves to be part of the important symposium. 

“I must also thank our Churches for their continuous prayers and support during these challenging times,” he said.
