PRIME Minister Manasseh Sogavare has conveyed his best wishes to the Emperor of Japan on his 60th Birthday celebrations.
Prime Minister Sogavare said the Emperor of Japan represents the oldest continuing monarchical house in the world, spanning more than two millennium.
“On behalf of my government and the good people of Solomon Islands, I would like to extend our best wishes to His Majesty on the occasion of his 60th Birthday. We wish him and the royal household, all of God’s richest blessings,” Prime Minister Sogavare said when attending the Emperor’s 60th Birthday celebrations in Honiara recently.
“Long may he reign as the symbol of the State and of the unity of the people and world peace.”
The Prime Minister said unity and peace are values that formed the foundational existence of modern Japan, founded on true humility and desire.
“It is sustained in a world that is struggling to make sense of the power struggles that are threatening global security, peace and stability,” he said.
The Prime Minister said since the adoption of the non-aggression policy in the conduct of its international relations, Japan stands out as a peace-loving nation.
He said not only in words but also in action, embedded into the belief system of the nation and its people.
“Solomon Islands is proud to be a friend of Japan and will remain so,” he said.
The Prime Minister said more than seven decades ago, after the end of World War 2, the need for world peace and prosperity is something that Japan is truly admired for.
The Prime Minister acknowledged Japan for sharing their experiences of the sacrifices during the war to the future generations, and since then has become a strong advocator for world peace, and prosperity of humankind on the basis of the lessons of their past history.
“Japan is a living testimony to that belief and commitment,” he said.
Prime Minister Sogavare said Post World War 2 and Japan would always be part of Solomon Islands history. He said Japan’s desire for world peace is something that the world needs to learn from.
