A passenger was wounded after an alleged knife attack in Atori, Malaita Province, this week.
A statement from the RSIPF Media Unit today states that the incident has happened along the east road to Atori at the night of the 5January 2021.
Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Malaita Province, Inspector Michael Ramosaea, alleges that a group of young boys in their 20s’ armed with bush knives and blocked the main road going down to Atori wharf.
He continues: “A suspect amongst the boys intends to cut a crew member of the vehicle but misses out and the bush knife landed on the shoulder of the victim.”
According Ramosaea the victim of the wounding incident has no connection in relation to a land dispute (which could trigger the attack) but he was a passenger on board the truck.
The victim has sustained severe injuries and was referred for medical attention. Heis in stable condition.
Police alleged that the motive behind the wounding incident was land.
Ramosaea says that the suspect escaped upon police arrival.
“I call upon my good people in Atori area to encourage the suspects to surrender themselves to police. We must work together to deal with such incidents,” he said.
RSPF are continuing their investigations into the matter.
