NRH Executive Management: grateful for fruits and food crops donated by North-West Guadalcanal Development Association.

The Executive Management of the National Referral Hospital (NRH) is grateful to the kind-hearted members of the Northwest Guadalcanal Development Association for their generous donation of fruits, vegetables and food crops to the hospital’s kitchen last week.

Dr. George Malefoasi, NRH’s Chief Executive Officer, explained that while the hospital always strives to ensure adequate stock of food in its kitchen, these garden produce, are at times difficult to replenish in time, especially during bad weather.

“Last week the earthquake may have also affected our suppliers to deliver in time garden produce to our kitchen, therefore the donation received was right in time when we needed it, hence gratefully appreciated”, said Dr Malefoasi.

Mr. Simon Chottu, founder of the Northwest Guadalcanal Development Association said that the association is very pleased to have donated the garden produce with an estimated market value of 5000 plus SBD to the hospital.

“What we donated was in fact what we were supposed to sell to our buyers in Honiara. However, due to the earthquake on the day of our sales, many of our buyers evacuated their offices and thus we could not make sales on the day. We had to decide to either take it back home or do something special. That is when we all agreed to donate to NRH and it was a truly special moment for everyone,” explained Mr Chottu.

Established in 2020 to bring communities together to enhance social economic activities and maximize gains, the association has grown in membership to over 3000 as of this year and members are engaged in various activities across several socio-economic sectors, one of which is agriculture and selling of combined garden produce.

“We hope our patients at the NRH enjoy the pawpaw, cucumbers, mangoes, eggplant and soursop that we delivered and pray that may the donated food also bring healing to them”, said Mr. Chottu.
