No tsunami threat after 6.6 earthquake rattle off Temotu

No tsunami threat is expected for Solomon Islands after an undersea earthquake of magnitude 6.6 occurred at 09:41am this morning approximately 58 km Southwest of Vanikoro Island, Temotu Province.
Solomon Islands Meteorological Service (SIMS) in a statement confirms the tremor epicenter was located near Latitude 12.12 Degrees South, Longitude 166.51 Degrees East.
“There is no tsunami threat to the Solomon Islands.
“However, unusual sea currents may be experienced along the coasts of Temotu province,” SIMS says.
