Newly elected MP for West Kwara’ae sworn into Parliament

The newly elected MP for West Kwara’ae constituency, Hon. Alfred Tuasulia took his oath of allegiance before the House today, Wednesday 14th June 2023, the first session of the sixth meeting of the 11th Parliament.

According to s63 of the Constitution no member of Parliament is permitted to take part in the proceedings of Parliament until they have made before Parliament an oath of allegiance.

In a brief session this morning, Speaker of Parliament, Hon. John Patteson Oti who presided over the meeting welcomed the new MP and reminded him of the responsibility ahead of him.

“I on behalf of the National Parliament of Solomon Islands welcome you as the newly elected Member of Parliament for West Kwara’ae Constituency.

Hon Oti further said; “having taken your oath you are now permitted to participate in the proceedings of this Honourable House. I wish you well in your participation on behalf of your constituents and citizens of this country who had entrusted you with this responsibility.”

The West Kwara’ae constituency went to the polls to elect their member of Parliament on a by election on Wednesday 24th May 2023 following the passing on of former MP Hon. Sam Iduri.

Parliament is on special adjournment until 9:30am on Monday 19th June 2023.
