STATEMENT FROM HON. DANIEL, SUILEA. WANEOROA

I make this statement with deep embarrassment and humble apology. It has been brought to my attention that a person from my Constituency of North Malaita has been making derogatory statements about our Prime Minister, Former Prime Minister and other Members of Parliament. This person is proclaiming himself  “The Voice of To’obaita” on social media.

I want to categorically state that he is not the voice of To’obaita and he does not represent the people of To’obaita.

I, Daniel Waneoroa, the elected Leader of North Malaita Constituency, I condemn the statement made by him in the strongest term. The people of To’obaita are respectful and are not of such; rude and ridiculous attitude displayed. It pains me greatly to see such level of disrespect being denuded by one of us against our national leaders, and against one of our very own and indigenous Toabaita descendent. Hon. Prime Minister is from the Manafiu tribe of To’obaita and thus, he is one of us.

The people of North Malaita Constituency greatly acknowledged that this is the second time in the country’s political leadership history that one of their very own descendants has again carrying our national leadership flag.

The swearing directed at our Prime Minister and other Members of Parliament is disrespectful, sickening and uncalled for by the people North MalaitaConstituency. Though not personally responsible, I feel ashamed and burdened by what has been done by one of my people. I feel responsible to at least make amends to this excessive affront.

I therefore, apologise and seek forgiveness from our Hon. Prime Minister, Former Prime Minister, Ministers of the Crown & CNUT Members of the Parliament, our Prime Minister’s families from; Guadalcanal, Isabel and my fellow brother from Manafiu. I extend my apologies to the Members of Parliament and I seek your forgiveness for this grave insult. Lastly, I apologise to my brothers and sisters from Isabel Province. I am deeply saddened to hear the abuses thrown at you. Solomon Islands is our nation. We are all Solomon Islanders, connected by blood, inter-marriage and friendship. Such disrespectful and abusive behaviour does not have a place in To’obaita society. Our society and country is too small for such hatred. There is more that unites us than divides us.

I pray that you all find it in your heart to accept my apology and forgive us for the grave wrong committed by one my people.

Sorelea.
