PS Beck says just under 1000 workers will be heading out by April

More than 900 workers will be heading out of the country under the Seasonal Labour Mobility in the next two months.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Collin Beck told journalists Tuesday that this will be the first group to leave the country in 2022.

He was answering a question on government to government arrangements for our seasonal workers. Beck said currently the country has arrangements with Australia and New Zealand.

SBMOnline understands that most of the workers will be going to Australia.

Beck said the first group will be leaving this Friday.

“We have another group who will be travelling over April. We are looking at just under 1000 who will be going,” said the PS.

He said towards the end of the year “we will have a good number of workers who will be going.”

The bulk of Solomon Islands workers are in Australia who recruited heavily in the past two years and they are working in various states there.
