Honiara, 23 July 2025 – The Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources (MFMR) wishes to clarify that it did not approve or endorse a recent media release concerning a proposed shrimp farming project by GrowMax and Solutions International JSC.

The Ministry was not informed of the project, nor was it involved in preparing or approving any public statement on the matter. No formal application, site visit, or technical submission has been received from the companies involved.

A statement issued by the local representative of Solutions International in Solomon Islands claimed the Minister for Fisheries had expressed full support for the initiative. However, the Ministry considers this misleading. While stakeholders may meet with government officials, such interactions do not constitute official approval or compliance with government requirements.

The Ministry emphasizes that all investment proposals must follow established procedures, including feasibility studies, environmental and legal assessments, and inter-agency reviews. To date, these steps have not been followed by the companies in question.

It is also confirmed that a recent application by Solutions International for a Foreign Investment Certificate (FIC) was declined, in accordance with standard regulatory processes to ensure all foreign investments meet national laws and policies.

The Ministry is concerned about the circulation of inaccurate and unverified information, especially when it involves references to senior government officials. Such actions can mislead the public, harm the reputation of reputable institutions, and undermine the Solomon Islands’ image as a responsible and investment-ready nation.

MFMR reiterates its commitment to supporting responsible investment that aligns with national development priorities and complies with legal and regulatory frameworks. Investors are encouraged to work through the proper channels and to seek official guidance before making public announcements.

The Ministry calls on the public and media to rely only on authorized statements and to refrain from spreading unverified claims. As the national authority for fisheries, aquaculture development, licensing, and resource management, MFMR will continue to uphold its responsibilities with integrity and transparency.

This incident highlights the importance of clear procedures and accurate public communication when dealing with potential foreign investments. MFMR remains open to well-prepared proposals that respect the laws and processes of Solomon Islands.
