
Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele has launched his government’s 100 days policy programm and blue print, policy statement, for the next four years.
At the launch of the foundational documents for the Government of National Unity & Transformation (GNUT) he urged everyone to join “us in this transformative journey.”
“Let us work hand in hand, in unity and with determination, to bring about the change we seek. Together, we will build a brighter future for the Solomon Islands,” he told a packed crowd of Honiara’s business houses and government officials at the Heritage Park Hotel.
Manele describes the 100 Days Program as a detailed and actionable plan designed to kick-start his government’s initiatives and demonstrate their immediate commitment to the people of the Solomon Islands.
He underscores that the program outlines a series of targeted actions and measurable goals that “we aim to achieve within the first 100 days of our administration, which officially starts today.”
The PM adds it also serves as a testament of their readiness to deliver prompt and effective governance.
Some of the key focus areas of the 100 Days Program include:
Economic Measures
Manele said the focus would be to enhance financial stability through strengthening tax compliance, tighten discretionary exemption, review MoUs relating to Mining companies, and ensure quality in spending. The procurement process must also be monitored to ensure Government purchases reflects value for money and quality outcomes.
Governance and Transparency
The PM highlights that in enhancing government transparency and accountability through the increased support to anti-corruption measures and ensuring public access to information.
Infrastructure Projects
He said initiating critical infrastructure projects, including road repairs, improved water supply systems, and enhanced connectivity, to stimulate economic activities and improve living conditions.
Legal Education in Schools
Manele said his government is introducing compulsory legal education in schools to equip future generations with a solid understanding of legal principles, civic responsibilities, and government agencies.
“This forward-thinking approach will help to or mitigate prevent misconceptions and unrest, fostering appreciation for the government and electoral process. It upholds principles of good governance, transparency, accountability, and the rule of law respect for authority and fostering national unity and sustainable growth,” he said.
Economic Transformation
On economic transformation, Manele said: “We are committed to revitalizing our economy through innovative and sustainable practices. By leveraging our unique geographic and natural advantages, we aim to create a resilient and diversified economy that benefits all citizens.”
“Our focus will be on fostering industries that can thrive in our environment, promoting entrepreneurship, and ensuring that economic growth translates into improved living standards for every Solomon Islander.
“On private sector development, the Government will continue to honour its agreement to continue work closely with the private sector to progress key reforms to improve enabling environment for doing business. The Government will focus on reducing cost of living and doing businesses by ensuring that the pricing of utilities such as electricity and water is set at an appropriate level,” said PM Manele.
Meanwhile Manele said these two documents—the 100 Days Program and the Policy Statement Document—are not just roadmaps but pledges to the people of the Solomon Islands. “They reflect our collective aspirations and our commitment to building a prosperous, united, and resilient nation. Together, we will navigate the challenges and seize the opportunities that lie ahead, guided by the principles of good governance, inclusivity, and sustainability,” he said.
Today’s launching was jointly hosted by the government and the Solomon Islands Chamber of Commerce and Industries (SICCI).
