
Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele has arrived in Dubai, United Arab Emirates to attend the prestigious 2025 World Governments Summit, taking place from February 11th to 13th.
The Summit brings together global leaders and policymakers, providing a platform to discuss key issues impacting governance, innovation, and development worldwide.
The invitation extended to Prime Minister Manele to participate in the 12th edition of the Summit marks a significant milestone in the growing bilateral relations between the Solomon Islands and the United Arab Emirates. Notably, the UAE is not only hosting the Summit but has also covered the costs of the trip, underscoring the strength and importance of the partnership between the two nations.
As one of the distinguished speakers at the Summit’s plenary, Prime Minister Manele will address topics relevant to the Pacific region.
On Wednesday, February 12th, he will be part of a roundtable discussion on the ‘Future of Tourism’.
On Thursday, February 13th, Prime Minister Manele and Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit the Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica will lead a plenary session on the ‘Future of Climate Change and Crisis Mitigation’. These discussions will focus on the unique challenges and opportunities facing the Pacific, particularly with regard to sustainable development and environmental resilience.
In addition to his participation on the Summit sessions, Manele’s schedule includes key bilateral engagements with both existing and potential new partners.
On Monday, February 10th, he will meet with executive officials from the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development. The delegation will also hold discussions with the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) on Tuesday, February 11th. Other bilateral meetings are in the process of being finalized.
The Summit and bilateral goals align closely with the Government for National Unity and Transformation policy priorities- providing valuable opportunities to further the Solomon Islands’ development agenda, foster stronger international collaboration, and advance transformational reforms to achieve progress and prosperity.
Manele is attending the World Governments Summit in Dubai at the invitation of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai.
The Prime Minister is accompanied by the Minister for National Planning and Development Coordination, Hon. Rexon Ramofafia MP, Member of Parliament for West Kwaio Hon. Claudius TeiÃfi MP, senior government officials and Solomon Islands Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, His Excellency Cornelius Walegerea.
