Taro police have arrested a 43-year-old male suspect for the alleged attempted murder of a 19-year-old girl in Northwest Choiseul recently.
Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Choiseul Province, Superintendent Berry Pogesopa alleged that the suspect repeatedly punched the victim on her forehead and repetitively hit the victim’s head against a post of a graveyard house.
Pogesopa said he then later pulled the victim’s hair and pushed her onto the ground using his hands and stepped on her back.
He said few people who witnessed the incident intervened and stopped the suspect from further attacking the victim.
Pogesopa said the victim was taken to Taro Hospital, and later referred to the National Referral Hospital for further medical treatment.
The suspect was arrested, dealt with, and was bailed and to appear in court at a later date.
“I urge all men to respect and protect women in our society. If we have disagreements or issues that need to be resolved, then please, resolve them in a more peaceful manner but not through violence because those who entertain violence in our communities will be dealt with,” said Pogesopa.
He said the law was made to protect the weak and vulnerable people in our society; therefore, any form of violence that is used against another person will not be tolerated but will be dealt with seriously according to the law.
