AUGUST 4th 2022 – Honiara, Solomon Islands. The Mayor Eddie Siapu, Executive, Councillors and HCC Management team have made a visit to the newly constructed Kukum market.
The purpose of the site visit was to see firsthand on the progress of the project.Director for HCC Works Division Eddie Gaza, when briefing the team said the current Progress of the Kukum Market project is 95 % complete.“The current progress is now on the final finishing scope of works.”
“The two (2) main market buildings are completed and final painting works are progressing,” he added.
The Office Building is also completed and tiling and painting is progressing towards completion.
Gaza said the Market Ablution blocks which consist of fully tiled six toilet rooms (three for Males and three for Females) are completed with minor final touches to be done.
The New Kukum Market will see new fully tiled shower rooms for Market Vendors, one for females and one for males.
Market Vendors will also access 60 new market tables and expecting approximately 200 market vendors to use the market tables at the maximum.
A car park for market customers is also provided and a maximum of 20 cars can be parked at the New Kukum Market.
Mayor Eddie Siapu and Executive were very pleased with the current progress of the Kukum Market project.
Siapu acknowledged the work done by the HCC Works Division and Contractors to have reached this stage.
He said once completed, this would really benefit the Honiara populace to have access to more market produce apart from the Central Market.
The Kukum Market is expected to open towards the end of September this year 2022.
