A key bridge linking Honiara and the west side has been closed after one of its ends was damaged in the current bad weather—making it too dangerous to cross for drivers.

It now disconnects Honiara and the west side of Guadalcanal.

Tanavasa Bridge, the one before the popular Hammock Beach in the Kakabona area is currently closed as one of its ends (facing Honiara) is badly damaged and dangerous to cross.

One of the residents of the area told SBMOnline that the damage to the bridge has severely affected the movement of people in the region into Honiara and those travelling westside out of the city.

West Guadalcanal provides a good bulk of market into Honiara city and holds some of the key educational institutions.

It is also a popular spot for beach goers.

As of this morning, there were still no movements from Honiara to repair the bridge.
