Huge cost to health as one NCD admission costs up to $26,000

The financial burden of NCD on the health system ranges from $18,238 – $26,465 per admission, data from the Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) Office revealed.

The financial cost revelation comes as it has been reveled this week that six persons die each day from NCD in the country.

But the economics of it is massive, with confirmation that that it could go as fast as $26, 455 as the cost to hospitalize one NCD patient.

Director of NCD (ag) Nevalyn Laesango further confirmed that NCDs such as diabetes, cancer, heart and respiratory disease account for up to 70% of all deaths, with a significant cost to the government.

According to data from the NCD Department, 90% of admissions, 87% deaths due to NCDs (NRH)

The healthcare costs of diabetes alone is 20% of MHMS budget
with cost per NRH NCD admission: $18,238 – $26,465
It also causes loss of productivity, intellectual capacity and is a threat to national security and development.
