Honiara Youth Leaders Graduate with Community Service Skills

In a major milestone for the Honiara City Council’s Youth Division, 12 of its dedicated community youth workers have successfully graduated with a Certificate III in Community Services from the Australia Pacific Training Coalition (APTC).

The graduation ceremony, held on March 21st, was a momentous occasion for the 12 Honiara City Councils’ youth workers, their families, the Tokspot project and the entire community. The graduates, who have been volunteering their time and skills to support the Youth Division’s community initiatives and youth development programs have now gained formal recognition and qualifications for their efforts.

This diverse group includes 2 females and 10 males, represents various communities within the Honiara City. They are supported by the New Zealand Government through ChildFund NZ, and the Honiara City Council under the Tokspot project.

The Certificate III in Community Services is a highly respected qualification in the field of community work. It equips individuals with the skills and knowledge necessary to provide a range of services and interventions to clients, including community development projects and support work.

Andrew Ramoifai Bobby, speaking for his male colleagues express their excitement for such as milestone achievement. He said throughout their studies in Samoa, they have stand united in their pursuit of excellence, driven by a shared vision and a common goal. Now their sleepless nights are over.

“This course has a profound impact on my life. It equips me with the necessary skills and knowledge to serve my community more effectively. The training I received has not only enhanced my understanding of community development but also instilled in me a greater sense of responsibility to work with young people in the community.”

Andrew further explained receiving the qualification now better prepared them to address the challenges young people faced in their respective communities. They can contribute to the development of initiatives surrounding youth mental health, youth empowerment activities and mentoring.

Two female graduates expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to receive such a valuable training. Both are excited to apply their newly acquired skills to better serve their communities and contribute to the development of Honiara City.

Monica Anikwai expressed, “I want to express our immense pride and joy in achieving the Certificate III in Community Services. This accomplishment is not just a personal milestone, but a beacon of hope for our respective communities.”

“I acknowledge Honiara City Council Youth Division and ChildFund NZ for believing in us. We’ve gained significant knowledge and skills from this course. It empowers us to make a tangible difference in the lives of those around us. We’re looking forward to the opportunities this qualification opens up for us.”

The Honiara City Council Youth Division is proud of the youth worker’s achievements and its appreciation for the APTC’s role in training them. These newfound skills will enhance the effectiveness of Youth Division’s community initiatives and youth development programs.

The training was provided by the APTC, a centre of training excellence that offers Australian-standard skills and qualifications across a wide range of vocational areas. The APTC has been instrumental in upskilling Pacific Island citizens, promoting a more skilled, inclusive, and productive workforce.
