SOLOMON ISLANDS REPRESENTED AT SOUTHEAST ASIAN YOUNG LEADERS’ PROGRAMME

Solomon Islands for the first time was invited to participate in the 19th IISS Shangri-La Dialogue on security as one of three Pacific Islanders invited to join the IISS Southeast Asian Young Leaders’ Programme.

The Shangri-La Dialogue convene in Singapore from the evening of Friday 10 June to the afternoon of Sunday 12 June 2022. The Young Leaders’ programme began earlier, on the morning of Friday 10 June 2022. This summit will mark the re-launch of the IISS Shangri-La Dialogue process following its hiatus in both 2020 and 2021 due to COVID-19.

As Solomon Islands representative, Director of Government Communication Unit (GCU) George Herming will participate as a full delegate in all of the Dialogue’s plenary and special sessions. In addition, Mr Herming will participate in seminars and exclusive networking sessions for Young Leaders with global decision-makers and fellow strategic thinkers.

The dialogue expects to attract strong participation to this year’s Dialogue from defence ministers, national security advisers, military leaders and senior officials from more than 40 participating countries.

Mr Herming’s participation along with two other Pacific participants from would contribute immensely to the success of this year’s IISS Shangri-La Dialogue and Southeast Asian Young Leaders’ Programme.
