Ground-breaking ceremony for new national stadium tomorrow

A ground breaking ceremony will be held tomorrow at King George VI to officially start work on the National Stadium, a key facility to hosting the Pacific Games 2023.

The Pacific Games Stadium Project is funded by the Peoples Republic of China and will be the key facility for the hosting of the games including the opening and closing ceremonies.

Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare will be the key guest of the event which will also see the Ambassador of PRC to Solomon Islands taking part. PRC is spending around USD$85m on the project.

Sogavare had told the media that the stadium will be completed by 2023 just in time for the games.

Chinese state company China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) has won a bid to build the 10,000 capacity national stadium.

The three-hour progamme starts at 9am.
