The Solomon Islands Government remains committed to implement major national projects regardless of the difficulties posed by the covid-19 pandemic on the country.

This commitment was demonstrated earlier this week by granting permission for Tina Hydro experts to travel to Honiara to ensure the project is implemented.

“Even through difficult times, our Government is committed to the future and will continue to support important national projects such as the Tina Hydro Power Development,” A statement from the Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (OPMC) said today.

The SIG has granted permission for Tina Hydro experts to arrive in Honiara on Solomon Islands Airlines flight IE663 who are now fully complying with Solomon Islands Government quarantine requirements as per the Government’s Official Travel Advisory of 26 May 2020 in a state facility under guard.

“We look forward to welcoming these experts to the Project who will commence work in 28 days to ensure the development remains on track,” the OPMC statement added.

The Tina Hydro Power Development project is one of the flagship projects of the National Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare and is being implement by the Government and its development partners.

Once completed, the project is expected to reduce fuel costs which will spark economic activities in the country.
